Muddy canal fun
Myself and a mate went for a muddy session in a canal in Manchester a couple of days ago, he's the first fellow mudder I've met and he had scouted out a mud filled sluice gate on the Huddersfield canal, unfortunately it wasn't the most secluded of spots (right next to a road bridge, albeit a quiet back road)!!
He went in first and was happily enjoying himself, smearing mud everywhere (including his face) when I spotted somebody on the towpath. He jumped out and hid behind the support pillar of the bridge over the spillway, I was using this bridge as my vantage point for filming him. No sooner was the towpath clear than an Environment Agency van pulled up with some butch bull-dyke at the wheel, she then got a load of gear out of the van and came to the canal to take some water samples, of all the days to turn up!! It was nearly half an hour before she finally buggered off, by which time my mate was starting to get quite cold.
He was then able to climb back in for a second session in the mud followed by a swim in the canal to wash off. While he was in the canal I spotted a woman approaching from the road walking her dogs, he moved under the bridge out of sight and she strolled along completely oblivious, until her yorkshire terrier spotted him and started barking, she just nodded 'hello' and smiled.
When the coast was finally clear I climbed in for my session in the mud whilst he filmed me, unfortunately he was getting quite cold after his swim in the canal and was starting to shiver, so the film of me is quite shaky. After about 5 mins he said someone was coming so I climber out and hid in the same place as he had. As it was starting to get busier along the towpath, once the coast was clear we went down to the river which runs next to the canal so I could wash off.
Once I'd washed off we went back to the car and put away the camera and other items that could get water damaged. We then went for a walk along/in the river and he showed me a couple of other decent muddy spots, including one under a bridge which I sat down in and he plastered my torso in mud. We'll probably do this again next time we go and try to get it filmed, so watch this space.
